FRANK ZAPPA: recomendaciones
La semana pasada hablamos de “Zappa”, el recién estrenado documental autorizado sobre la vida y obra de Frank Zappa, sin duda uno de los más interesantes de la temporada.
Ahora llegan detalles de su banda sonora oficial, un álbum concebido para presentar lo más destacado de su vasto catálogo de álbumes de estudio, grabaciones en directo, clips con entrevistas y una docena de temas inéditos salidos de las abundantes arcas del inclasificable artista.
La banda sonora va a salir principalmente en una caja de 3CDs o de 5LPs bajo el título “Zappa Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” con un total de 68 temas que van desde el iniciático “Freak Out” de Mothers of Invention, publicado por Verve en 1966, hasta la obra orquestal final del músico “The Yellow Shark”.
Pero en la caja de lujo de la banda sonora no hay sólo música de Zappa, también de allegados y músicos que admiraba, e incluye temas de Bizarre Records y Straight Records (Alice Cooper, GTO´s), piezas de sus amados Edgard Varese e Igor Stravinsky, así como 26 temas del score compuesto expresamente para el documental por John Frizzell.
La Zappa Family Trust ha recuperado, entre otras muchas cosas, a The Mothers interpretando la canción de doo-wop ‘Memories of El Monte’ y otras grabaciones inéditas de un concierto en el Whiskey A Go-Go de 1968; un ensayo en directo del LP ‘Apostrophe’; la interpretación de Zappa de ‘Dancin ‘Fool’ proveniente de programa de 1978 de Saturday Night Live y extractos de un concierto de Fillmore West de 1970.
Ya se pueden encargar las ediciones físicas de la banda sonora. La caja de 3CDs se va a ser publicada el 19 de enero de 2021. Cuatro meses después, el 7 de mayo de 2021 saldrá a la venta la versión de 5 elepés en vinilo negro de 180 gramos y en vinilo ahumado de edición limitada de 180 gr. También va a salir una edición de 2 LPs de vinilo transparente de 180 gramos y una edición digital de 21 temas. Abajo están todos los tracklists.
