El cantante y bajista Greg Lake es el protagonista de la caja de edición limitada de siete discos, “Magical” que ayer viernes fue publicada por Manticore Records vía Spirit of Unicorn Music.

La box set de 7 CDs reúne por primera vez material de estudio y en directo del músico en solitario, junto a música de King Crimson, Emerson Lake and Palmer y Emerson, Lake & Powell, y colaboraciones con Toto, Gary Moore, Asia, Geoff Downes y Keith Emerson, entre otros.
El comunicado de la nueva edición explica:
“Si bien quizás sea mejor conocido como el cantante, letrista, compositor, bajista, guitarrista y productor de una de las bandas más importantes y con mayores ventas de la década de 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Lake era un cantante muy respetado. Un compositor que lanzó material en solitario y en colaboración a lo largo de cuatro décadas. También fue un músico increíblemente solicitado tocando con The Who, Ringo Starr y la Trans-Siberian Orchestra”.
Presentado en una caja 10” x 10”, la edición limitada “Magical” tiene un libro de mesa de 64 páginas con notas extensas para cada álbum junto con fotografías nunca vistas del archivo de la familia Lake, así como notas de Jerry Ewing, editor de Prog Magazine, quien habla con muchos de los colaboradores de Lake.
Magical presenta los dos álbumes en solitario de Lake, incluido su debut repleto de hard rock con Gary Moore. También se incluyen dos álbumes en vivo, incluido “Songs of a Lifetime”, donde Lake versiona a artistas como The Beatles y Elvis Presley, así como una versión del clásico de The Impressions/Curtis Mayfield, “People Get Ready”.

El set también incluye temas raros y grabaciones en vivo como de King Crimson telonenado a los Rolling Stones en el legendario show de Hyde Park en 1968, tres temas inéditos grabados a principios de los 80 con Toto, junto con canciones de su época con Asia, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Greg Lake Band, Ride the Tiger de Greg Lake, Emerson & Lake y una de las primeras grabaciones de Lake al frente de The Shame en 1967.
Lake murió el 7 de diciembre de 2016, a los 69 años. La colección ha contado con el visto bueno total y participación de su familia, que abrió su archivo para permitir la inclusión de material raro.
