Hace apenas un par de día informábamos en PYD de la intención de R.E.M. de publicar una buena carga de material inédito. Sin embargo Mike Mills en la entrevista que concedió a Billboard no dijo ni pío de fechas de edición, y ahora se ha anunciado que dos recopilaciones de material inédito del grupo de Athens acaban de ser publicadas en iTunes.
En concreto se trata de una antología de inéditas de su época IRS que contiene 50 temas, y otra de Warner Brothers con un total de ¡131 canciones!
La antología de IRS (1982-1987) lleva su versión de “Moon River” de Andy Williams, del “Tighten Up” de Archie Bell & The Drells, de “King Of The Road” de Roger Miller, y de “All I Have To Do Is Dream” de Everly Brothers. Además de sus relecturas de R.E.M. de “Pale Blue Eyes” y “There She Goes Again” de Velvet Underground.
La de Warner B., con canciones registradas en estudio y directo entre 1988 y 2011, incluye versiones de Leonard Cohen (“First We Take Manhattan”), de “Dark Globe” de Syd Barrett, de Suicide e Iggy Pop, caras B de singles, y una buena selección de los mejores R.E.M. en vivo (Glastonbury, Saturday Night Live, cortes de conciertos europeos y americanos, etc…).
La portada, por cierto, recuerda mucho a la de “A Nice Pair” de Pink Floyd y “Sound Affects” de los Jam, inspiradas a su vez en los discos de efectos de sonido de la BBC.
Además R.E.M. tienen su reciente “Unplugged” del Record Store Day disponible para su descarga digital en iTunes, y todos sus álbumes remasterizados. Todo un festín para cualquier buen seguidor del grupo.
