La primera edición de los premios VMA de MTV sin categorías por género fue para el rapero Kendrick Lammar y su vídeo “Humble”, que convirtió 8 nominaciones en 6 premios.
La gala de los MTV Video Music Awards 2017 regresó a la Costa Oeste, Forum de Inglewood (California) presentada por Katy Perry, en una ceremonia caracterizada por los mensajes en contra del racismo como consecuencia de Charlottesville, con aparición incluida de Susan Bro, madre de la fallecida Heather Heyer.
También alusiones y frases de esperanza para los que sufren depresión, por las inesperadas y tempranas muertes de Chester Bennington y Chris Cornell.
Lamar literalmente arrasó (best video, best hip-hop video, best art direction, best visual effects, best cinematography and best direction) casi se lleva los 8 premios a los que aspiraba.
El gran perdedor, sin duda, fue “Despacito” de Daddy Yankee y Luis Fonsi, ft. Justin Bieber, que ha vendido todo lo vendible y que perdió sin embargo el premio de “canción del verano” que se fue a manos de “XO Tour Llif3” de Lil Uzi Vert.
El premio “gordo” de “artista del año” fue para Ed Sheeran, y Khalid fue escogido como “mejor nuevo artista”.
En la categoría Best Fight Against the System, presentada por Susan Bro, ganaron todos los nominados.
Las actuaciones de la noche corrieron a cargo de Miley Cyrus, Pink, Ed Sheeran Y kendrick Lamar, entre otros.
