Jethro Tull lanzarán una edición ampliada de 50 aniversario de su LP de 1970, “Benefit”, el próximo 5 de noviembre.

Fue el tercer disco de estudio de la banda de Ian Anderson, un LP que no defraudó las esperanzas puestas en ellos pero que no alcanzó las buenas críticas del segundo, “Stand Up”. Un álbum que el propio Anderson definió como más “oscuro” debido a una extenuante gira de Jethro Tull por los Estados Unidos y un creciente descontento ante las presiones propias de la industria musical.

“Benefit” va a salir ahora en una caja de cuatro CDs y dos DVDs, incluida la remezcla de 2013 de Steven Wilson del álbum original y temas asociados, junto a una serie de grabaciones inéditas.

El set contiene un libro de lujo de 100 páginas con comentarios de varios colaboradores (incluido el líder Ian Anderson, el guitarrista Martin Barre, el bajista Glenn Cornick – fue el último LP de Tull en el que tocó- y el baterista Clive Bunker) y fotos inéditas de la banda en estudio y en directo.

Esta edición amplía considerablemente la reedición del año 2013 con un tercer disco que incluye la remezcla inédita de Wilson de la actuación del concierto Live at Tanglewood 1970, y un segundo DVD que incluye metraje de ese mismo show. El cuarto CD cuenta con una versión mono recién remasterizada del concierto no publicado anteriormente Live at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago 1970.

“Benefit” fue un disco de transición, el primero en el que tocó el teclista John Evan, todavía como miembro no oficial, pero que había estado ya en la génesis del grupo, cuando se llamaban John Evan Band, prácticamente su líder antes que Anderson.

En single fue publicada la maravillosa “Inside”.

Por otra parte, Jethro Tull confirmaron recientemente que lanzarán un nuevo álbum de estudio, “The Zealot Gene”, a principios de 2022 a través del nuevo sello InsideOutMusic / Sony Music, aunque todavía no han anunciado una fecha de edición, ni han dado más datos.

La formación actual de la banda incluye al líder (voz, flauta, guitarra acústica, armónica) junto al guitarrista Joe Parrish-James, el teclista John O’Hara, el bajista David Goodier y el baterista Scott Hammond. El guitarrista Florian Opahle ha participado solo en el álbum.
