El actor de “Star Trek”, William Shatner presentó una versión de “Silent Night” con Iggy Pop, que va a ser parte de su disco navideño “Shatner Claus: The Christmas Album”. Curioso dúo para un más que curioso álbum.

Muy llamativo por la diversidad de los invitados, que conformaban una coral de lo más rara para el disco del Captain Kirk. Un LP bizarro de villancicos que incluye a rockeros como Billy Gibbons de ZZ Top (“Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”); folkies como Judy Collins (“White Christmas”); músicos inclasificables (Todd Rundgren, “Winter Wonderland”); punks (Henry Rollins, “Jingle Bells”), popis como Elliot Easton de los Cars, y glorias setenteras, Ian Anderson de Jethro Tull, y del prog rock, Mel Collins de King Crimson. Hasta el mismísimo Rick Wakeman de Yes. Alucinante, inverosímil, elenco.
En la versión de “Silent Night”, se combina el recitado de Shatner con la voz de barítono de Iggy para ofrecer una lectura sentimental del viejo clásico. Nada nuevo pero si bien hecho.
Anteriormente, Shatner lanzó un álbum de versiones de David Bowie, “Seeking Major Tom”, y un álbum conceptual de rock progresivo titulado “Ponder The Mystery”.
Mucho antes de eso, otros cantaron al Captain Kirk.
