Se anuncia para el 30 de octubre la publicación de la que podría ser la box set definitiva de The Jam en directo.
La caja se llama “Fire and Skill”, una box set de 6 CDs a razón de un cd por año de vida del grupo de Paul Weller.
El primero es un concierto explosivo en el londinense 100 Club de 1977, grabado diez meses después de que tocaran allí por primera vez en noviembre de 1976. Los Jam más punk.
Le sigue uno de 1978 en el en el que hacen casi entero su segundo LP “The Modern World”, fue el sexto concierto que dieron los Jam ese año.
A continuación uno de febrero de 1979 en la Universidad de Reading, centrado es su fantástico LP, “All Mod Cons”, la primera aparición en directo del trío de Woking ese año en una posición más desahogada, abanderando ya la new wave y con el beneplácito general de la crítica.
El cuarto concierto corresponde al Newcastle City Hall de octubre de 1980, en el que los Jam presentaron canciones de su inminente “Setting Sons”, posiblemente su obra maestra, y el momento de su explosión con “The Eton Rifles” nº 3 en UK, seguido del Nº 1 de “Going Underground”.
El penúltimo es el concierto que dieron en el Hammersmith Palais en diciembre de 1981, uno de los cuatro que dieron para presentar el material que iría en su último long play “The Gift”. Un show al modo de las viejas Soul Revues de Motown, con artistas invitados como Bananarama, Department S o TV21.
Y para finalizar uno de los conciertos de despedida del grupo en el Wembley Arena de Londres, ye en diciembre de 1982. Paul Weller ya había anunciado la separación de The Jam, pero todavía tenían los fans la posibilidad de verlos en directo. Fue una gira de 14 conciertos entre noviembre y diciembre, con climax en el estadio Wembley.
“Fire and Skill” incluye un libro de tapa dura con fotos y varios ensayos. Todas las cintas originales han sido remasterizadas en los estudios Abbey Road.
