A finales de los años 60, Mick Jagger dijo que le correspondía a nuevas bandas como Led Zeppelin y Jethro Tull recoger el testigo de los Rolling Stones o Who, un poco más y las cuatro hubieran participado en el famoso “Rock and Roll Circus”.
Fue Ian Anderson, fundador, cantante, flautista, y, en definitiva, alma de Jethro Tull, quién ha seleccionado cuidadosamente una lista de 50 canciones extraídas del catálogo de 21 álbumes de estudio de la banda. “50 for 50” contiene esfuerzos primerizos de Jethro Tull (“Nothing Is Easy”, “Beggars Farm”); hard rock (“Aqualung”, “Locomotive Breath”); clásicos progresivos como “Skating Away” y “Critique Oblique” y la vertiente más folk de “Heavy Horses” o “Songs From the Wood”.
La recopilación está vagamente organizada en orden cronológico para reflejar las distintas fases musicales de la banda. Además de “50 for 50” Jethro Tull también lanzarán el resumido “50th Anniversary Hits” una colección condensada de 15 cortes que estará disponible en CD el 25 de mayo, junto con “50 for 50”, y en vinilo el 31 de agosto.
Jethro Tull inició a primeros de marzo una gira mundial para celebrar su 50 aniversario. El tour les llevará por Estados Unidos y Europa hasta diciembre. En España tocarán en el Palacio de Congresos de Madrid el 3 de noviembre y el 4 en el Baluarte de Pamplona.
